Give us a try and get ready for a challenging, yet low impact full body workout focused on creating long, lean, defined muscles.

 

Barre exercise is one of the most popular and fastest growing forms of exercise in the country. With roots in dance, Pilates and yoga, Barre is a full body workout that focuses on small, isolated, highly repetitive micro movements; designed to target and work each muscle group to fatigue. Following an interval training format with intermittent stretching to lengthen the muscles, the outcome you can expect to see are long, defined and toned muscles. 

Barre is accessible for all levels, ages and genders!  The exercises are challenging yet variations can be incorporated so that if you have an injury or you are just starting out the class is manageable.  It is the most highly effective workout at reshaping the muscles of the body.

Kristen Ullrich

Kristen Ullrich is a graduate of Boston College as well as the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  After spending 20 years in the corporate world she decided to follow her passion for fitness and; along with her husband Matt, opened Southern Rhode Island's first Barre studio - BarreCode Westerly.  

Kristen is Barre certified through the YogaWorks BarWorks program. Kristen is a 15 year practitioner of yoga and is a RYT 200 yoga instructor; having completed her training with North East Power Yoga.  She also received her ashtanga yoga certification with David Swenson and has done ongoing trainings and workshops with teachers such as Ana Forrest, Rolf Gates, Kino McGregor,  Shiva Rhea, Coeli Marsh and Philip Urso.  In the past Kristen has also taught aerobics, step and muscle conditioning classes. 

Kristen is passionate about bringing Barre to the community!  You'll find her classes to be fun and challenging yet welcoming for all levels. For more on Kristen, visit her site here.

Kristen enjoys spending time with her friends and family and you will often find Matt, the kids or her parents helping out at the studio. And of course Bear the golden retriever is always there jumping up at the counter to greet all BarreCoast guests!


Hillari Gervasini

Hillari is thrilled to be a part of the Barre Code team!  She is a certified Barre Fitness instructor through the BarWorks teacher training program. She is also a Spin instructor certified through Madd Dog Athletics and teaches at Luxe Fitness Clubs in Westerly. Born and raised right in Westerly,  Hillari has been highly involved in fitness for most of her life. Hillari also brings with her 16 years of experience in tap, jazz and ballet.

Hillari has a Bachelors Degree of Arts from the University of Rhode Island in Communication Studies.  She is currently finishing up her Master’s Degree at Johnson and Wales University in Special Education and is student teaching at Dunns Corners Elementary School.  When she is not at the gym, or instructing classes, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, planning her wedding and going for walks with her dog, Zeus! Hillari is excited to share her passion for fitness with the BarreCoast community! 


Leanne Tria

Leanne is motivated to share her wealth of fitness knowledge with the community and happy to be a part of the BarreCoast team! Leanne is trained in Stott Pilates Method and has been teaching Pilates for 6 years at Luxe Fitness in Westerly. Leanne started teaching a small group at John Ward Physical Therapy in Charlestown, RI in 2009 and many students from that group are still practicing with her to this day.

Leanne also holds a certification as a PIYO instructor which incorporates a Pilates and Yoga mix and enjoys attending trainings to add to her repertoire. Barre is a mix of all of Leanne’s favorite forms of exercise combined into one intense, amazing workout. Leanne received her Barre certification through the YogaWorks BarWorks program in 2013 and is excited to educate the community in this great form of exercise!

Leanne is a highly enthusiastic, motivating instructor. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and has been working for the Westerly School Department as a Parent Educator for the last 3 years. She resides in Westerly with her husband and her two children. Leanne enjoys stand-up paddle boarding, boating, fishing, antiquing, reading, and hanging out with friends and family. 


Susan Connelly

Susan is a classically trained ballet dancer; she was trained in Balanchine technique and pursued a career in classical ballet. Susan currently teaches Ballet, Pilates and West African Dance at Connecticut College, where she has been a faculty member of the Dance Department since 1998.

Susan studied yoga at Jivamukti in NYC for a decade before beginning her teacher training. She has roots in Jivamukti, Shiva Rae's Prana Flow, and Baptiste styles of yoga. She has taught at studios near and around South Eastern CT including High Street Yoga, Sol Vinyasa Yoga, The Yoga Shop and Mystic Yoga Shala. Susan also teaches Yoga at The Ocean House and the Weekapaug Inn.  She teaches a variety of classes from basics to advanced vinyasa flow.

Susan began training in Pilates as a dancer at the age of thirteen and continued her studies throughout her career. In 1997 Susan completed her certification in Pilates after a year-long apprenticeship with Romana Kryzanowska. Romana is one of a handful of teachers who worked with Joe Pilates, himself. Susan completed the training program which included years of study, culminating in a teaching apprenticeship of 1000 hours. She has owned her own studios on Fishers Island, NY and in Gramercy Park, NYC.

Susan is dedicated to helping others experience the joy and healing qualities of movement.


Dori Bathgate

Dori is certified in Barre Fitness through the BarreCoast training program led by Jocelyn Kay-Levy. She also brings a wealth of other experiences to her classes. Dori began teaching group fitness classes at Providence College in 2005 and is certified through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. She is certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise and certified as a spin instructor through Madd Dog Athletics. As a child and teenager, she took dance classes in ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, and hip hop.

Dori has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Secondary Education from Providence College and currently teaches Spanish at East Greenwich High School.  She is also a personal trainer and teaches spin and Group X classes at Luxe Fitness. Dori is looking to further her knowledge in fitness by taking classes to become certified as a Physical Education and Health teacher and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her dog, jogging, and relaxing on the beach. Dori has enjoyed watching BarreCoast grow since its opening and is excited to be a part of such a welcoming exercise community!


Bear Ullrich

Bear is BarreCoast's Chief People Officer and head of Public Relations.  With a wag and a woof, Bear enjoys jumping up to greet all guests and making everyone feel welcome!  When not working at BarreCode, Bear enjoys long walks on the beach, rides in the car and eating ALL sorts of things, including but not limited too, jelly fish, sea stars, seashells, crabs, crayons, chalk, legos, pens, paper, post it notes,  stuffed animals, tupperware, cloth napkins and his most favorite - children's socks. Bear looks forward to seeing you at the Barre soon... Just hold on to your socks!
